Heaven's Door 10 Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon

I genuinely enjoy this one, despite it not aligning with my typical preferences. It's not overly sweet for a bourbon, but it is intriguing, distinctive, and pleasant. Color: a deep golden honey. Nose: Chocolate is immediate, followed by tobacco and hay. Earthy. First taste neat: the earthiness persists. I detect peanut and oak, a touch of cocoa, and some tobacco. Hints of yeasty bread. Not very sweet. Very little burn. I'd liken it to a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Adding water reveals some sweeter notes, such as caramel corn. The finish is exceptionally long; I'm still perceiving flavor notes a full minute after it's gone. It's quite excellent neat, but adding water introduces wonderful layers of taste.

Remarkably smooth, with a long yet gentle lingering finish of vanilla, subtle baking spices from the kitchen, and a hint of toasted oats. It's comforting and warm, hailing from Tennessee. This exquisite straight bourbon whiskey is non-chilled filtered to preserve its mature character. I'd suggest enjoying it neat with minimal ice, using ice only if absolutely necessary. The reason for its name, Heavens Door? Bob Dylan is a co-founder.

Not at all what I anticipated. It smelled of acidic formaldehyde with woody undertones. We even had to rinse the glasses to get a drop or two of water residue to allow the aromas to surface. This was true even in my "Bourbon Junkies" Glencairn glass. I would not purchase this, unless perhaps it was the sole option at a gas station hundreds of miles from civilization.

I prefer this bourbon slightly over the other brand's rye. It's smoother and, as a bourbon, sweeter. Vanilla is prominent on the palate, and the finish is long with a slight alcoholic bite. Significantly more expensive than the standard offerings from that brand, but it is superior.

Received as a Father's Day present, so its score is automatically elevated compared to if I had purchased it. It's a very good bourbon, quite smooth and drinkable, but for the price, superior options exist for a 10-year-old bourbon. The attractive packaging and presentation are noteworthy, which is likely why my son chose it for me - many thanks for a thoughtful gesture!

A great pour, though it has more spice than I usually prefer. It is smooth, however, and I appreciate the lingering spice. Some toasted corn is present initially, with a hint of burnt brown sugar underneath the spicy finish at the end.
