Glenmorangie The Cadboll

Slightly unimpressed. This rather rare expression from Glenmorangie (perhaps just my perception) is finished in "sweet French wine casks" for a sweeter profile. Let's see if that holds true. Bottled at 43% ABV. On the nose: For a 43% ABV, it's a very light whisky. Notes of chocolate, varnish, paint, acetone, orange, honey, and red fruits. On the palate, it's very sweet. Flavors of strawberry, spicy pepper, chocolate, and almonds. The aftertaste has a faint note of burnt hay and clove. Overall, this whisky delivers on its promise of sweetness but lacks character and is a bit dull. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing unpleasant about it; it's just not exceptional. 85 out of 100.

Initially, the aroma is wonderfully sweet yet dry, reminiscent of lightly browned bread. This is followed by gentle, sweet lemon scents, a mineralic, crisp dryness, and the faint savory hint of toasted sage. The taste is velvety, full, and opulent, with notes of freshly baked cookies, candy, and powdered sugar. These are balanced by a dry, crisp minerality and the signature floral notes of the distillery. The finish is extended and intricate, concluding with a final whisper of vintage strawberry and lemon hard candies.

Number 3 on the DF tasting list. Not a stand out on the day. By this stage I was well into chatting to the guy about dramfest, a Glendronach single cask tasting he did earlier in the week and so I was just registering a score. Middle of the road. Preferred less than the Tayne.

Certainly a personal favorite. I found it quite light. I had to bury my nose in the glass to detect its scent. Nose: subtle vanilla, fruity, oak Palate: peach, almond Finish: smooth, light, bourbon

A fantastic option for travel retail, and I'd suggest giving it a try. Smells of honey and stewed dates. It tastes sweet, with notes of almond paste, ginger, and woody spice on the finish. Really enjoyed it.
