Glenmorangie Lighthouse

If you have visited the Glenmorangie distillery in the last two years, you'll notice a state-of-the-art, gleaming, solar-powered structure next to the old warehouses, resembling something from 2080. Its exterior is entirely transparent glass, revealing a working still. This impressive installation is called "The Lighthouse." Indeed, Glenmorangie is prioritizing sustainability, developing a new method to power their stills using solar energy. Naturally, this milestone was commemorated with a whisky expression also named "The Lighthouse." I had no expectations whatsoever and was pleasantly surprised. Let's discuss this single malt at 48% alcohol by volume; only 4,782 bottles were ever produced. On the nose, it's the essence of tangerine. Crushed almonds and pineapple. Fruit salad and lemon meringue. Delightful. On the palate, it was very good! Vanilla crust, fondant. Very fruity and not spicy at all. Passionfruit and pineapple. Aftertaste is dry with an "almondy" finish. Slightly grassy. Pineapple. Overall, I never paid this whisky any mind when browsing auction sites, but I'm extremely pleased I had the opportunity to sample it at the distillery. A very fruity, well-crafted dram that I believe anyone can appreciate. I must admit I was surprised. My rating for it is an honest 88 out of 100.

Glenmorangie products can be quite inconsistent for me, so I was quite pleased with the high success rate at a large tasting yesterday featuring around sixteen different bottles. This one was quite agreeable, packed with the distillery's signature citrus notes. The aroma offers caramel candy and citrus from the combination of the bourbon and sherry casks. The taste presents citrus water, a subtle honey, and a mild nuttiness. The conclusion is unexpectedly prolonged, with hints of fresh toast and Jaffa cake topping. This is a beacon you will want to navigate towards.

An enjoyable spirit that’s easy to drink, though not exceptional. I wouldn't purchase a whole bottle, but I'd happily have a glass.
