I acquired a sample from another whisky enthusiast. The initial aroma offered notes of cotton candy, vanilla, and a mild peat smoke, less intense than Laphroaig 10. The palate is harder to pin down, presenting a nutty-vanilla flavor. I'm uncertain if the spiciness comes from the flavor profile or the alcohol irritating my tongue, as this non-age-statement spirit might contain younger, harsher components. Compared to the nose, the taste is less sweet and candy-like, lacking any saline or oceanic notes (which I enjoy). It offers a gentle, oaky, and peaty character. The finish mirrors the palate, but with a creamy sweetness.

About this bottle
Peated Virgin Oak Finish, introduced in November 2017, is one of four single malts from the Wood Finish Collection, marking the distillery's initial wood finish bottlings. These four single malts, with no age statement, are first matured in first-fill American oak barrels before being transferred to their specific casks for up to two years. This particular expression utilizes virgin American oak. Glenglassaugh Distillery resumed operations in 2008, having been dormant for more than two decades. All bottlings are at 46% ABV.

On the nose, heavy oak, peat, and salt hit you first, similar to salty peanuts, but then cotton candy immediately appears. On the palate, it's rather medicinal for me, very much like Laphroaig, but it's a bit more zesty and sharp. The finish is bitter oak, with just a little sweetness from the peat. Really nice.
Beautiful dark chocolate cookie dough with a hint of cinnamon, followed by the scent of burning wood. Today was spent preparing the nursery! πΆπ»
A 2018 festival dram. It offered peat and sweetness with a gentle character, harmonizing well, reminiscent of Torfa. Priced around $100 in New Zealand. 3.75
