Alejandro Grimes 2.8

From a virtual tasting on March 5, 2021. Smells of light smoke, caramel/toffee, vanilla, fruity hard candies (pear/lemon), and candy fruit. Taste is nutty, with chili chocolate, salted caramel, ginger, and black pepper. Ends with sweet damp smoke, tobacco, leather, and licorice. It has a fairly full body and a medium-long finish, with a slight manufactured sweetness lingering. This is a respectable dram generally, but I found an artificial taste (like hard candy) beneath the smoky dampness that I didn't really care for. The aroma doesn't hint at the taste to come. It suggests something zesty and sweet, but the flavor becomes much smokier and deeper in the mouth and on the finish. Bottled as number 1 of 191. Ranked sixth out of six drams tasted, earning 5% of the votes for the evening's favorite. 61% of attendees indicated they liked this whisky.
