Glenallachie 2008 Single Cask 11 Year Old

Found this in a gift set and was quite surprised by the strong, sherry-like aroma of this special whisky. Loads of Milka Chocolate too, with some subtle vanilla and citrus essence. It immediately hits the tongue, with a significant alcohol kick and a very warm mouthfeel, evoking a cozy "autumn" feel. Dark fruits mingle with vanilla, chocolate, almonds, hints of anise and sage, presenting a powerful profile filled with herbs and spices. Sherry and Madeira wine notes linger in the aftertaste, alongside wood and dust. The burn is fairly gentle compared to the initial impact. It's a bit too intense for me, and certainly not for daily drinking, although I'm quite impressed by the unique and complex palate. Personally, however, I prefer smoother drinks.

Nose: Sweet wine, dried fruit, and sherry notes. Palate: Fig and apricot taste, with chocolate cherry undertones. Finish: Fruitcake, cocoa, and coffee flavors. Distilled: July 2008 Bottled: February 2020 1 of 773 bottles Matured for its entire life in a single Pedro Ximenez puncheon. This is an intense sherry experience! I'm a big supporter of Glenallachie. I particularly appreciate some of their individual casks and independent bottlings; the spirit holds up well to experimentation and appears to flourish in the hands of enthusiasts. This particular release is truly exceptional. It possesses a distinct unicorn quality. It's absolutely fantastic!
