Lauren Collins 4.5

High-proof whiskies are always welcome. Adding a specific distillery to that equation promises a very nice experience. An independent bottler is known for great distilleries and is recognized as one of the finest independent bottlers today. This particular release is from a specific year, bottled at a very appealing strength, from a single cask, with a limited number of bottles produced. On the nose, it begins with a signature note of a specific distillery: an orange peel scent. It also has metallic, like copper, notes, lime and lemon peel, vanilla fondant, red berries, white chocolate, and a hint of stale cake. The palate offers two or three very clean and appealing notes: white chocolate; a citrusy orange acidity and red fruits. It has a pleasant bite. The aftertaste is very acidic, but nice. It's like orange juice with notable acidity. There's also pepper and a metallic copper flavor. It's a bit tart. Overall, the most striking aspect is that the alcohol is barely perceptible in this very strong dram. It doesn't seem to be at the stated proof, which indicates how well-crafted it is. A wonderful single malt, earning a high score.
