I wasn't familiar with Franck Sauzée. This is unusual for me, as I'm a big football follower and consider myself knowledgeable about the sport and its history. My decision to purchase this special limited edition bottle was solely because it was a GlenAllachie. And I say "was" because not a single drop remains. This limited release honors the French football player, Franck Sauzée, apparently a well-known defender/midfielder for Olympique Marseille and AS Monaco. Only 350 bottles were produced, a rare bottling from the independent distillery Gleann Mor, boasting a respectable 53.5% ABV. The nose is outstanding. Superb toffee; amazing caramel, fantastic hazelnut, and a wonderful dark Christmas cake. It also presents coffee/cappuccino and notes of aged orange. The palate echoes this intensity. Salted caramel, anise, and toffee are present. Once again, truly remarkable flavors. It's highly enjoyable. The finish is dominated by chocolate, hazelnut, coffee, and cocoa. It strongly resembles a "Crunch" chocolate bar. Overall, this was an excellent offering, thoroughly pleasing. It's not overly complex or powerfully intense, simply a delicious, sweet single malt. I rate it 92 out of 100.
