Darrin Dennis 4.3

The richness and complexity are evident from the color and aroma: a dark, reddish amber hue with ample baking spice, a hint of anise, and a dominant woody vanilla. The palate offers more of the same, with notes of berry fruitiness adding another dimension. It remains quite spicy until a dash of water or a small ice cube is added, at which point the richer, sweeter flavors begin to emerge. However, the spiciness persists through a fairly long finish. An excellent Scotch with edges carefully smoothed to a beautiful roundness.

For a 12-year-old, the $100 cost is a bit steep, but this Glenallachie bottling is sure to please if port-finished scotch is your preference. It bears a resemblance to the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, yet its 48% ABV intensifies the taste. Fantastic whisky — 84/100.

Adding a bit of water this time seemed to enhance the aromas. I detected a buttery scent, possibly like croissants, and distinct fruit notes.
