Glen Turner Heritage Double Cask Port Cask Finish

I must admit I'd never encountered this whisky before, and while I'm not typically a fan of port cask finishes, this reasonably priced single malt is pleasant enough to drink, and for $17, you get a nice dram. This is a double cask, aged in American white oak and finished in port casks. Bottled at 40% ABV. On the nose, it starts off harsh but improves. It needs to breathe... a lot. Uncorking reveals red fruits. In the Glencairn glass, the alcohol note is strong; Acetone. Red Apples, feels young. Barley and cotton candy. Sugary, red fruits. Difficult to discern due to strong acetone notes. Old, spoiled apples. Slight cinnamon. After the first sip, strawberry emerges. The second sip reveals a caramelized apple flavor. On the palate, it's much better. It begins slightly bitter but becomes sugary, like cotton candy. Wine-like. Apples. Barley / grassy. A decent palate. Subtle sugar and caramelized apple from the fairground. Aftertaste is very dry and quite decent. Raw wheat, Tobacco leaf, Dry grass. Perhaps a faint hint of smoke. Overall, this is a good whisky for its price and could serve as a good introduction to single malts. A fair 80 out of 100.

Excellent value for the cost. Fruity taste with very light oak in the finish

Sweetly fruity, notes of apple and pear. Spicy, vanilla. The finish is woody.

Opens up. Quite flat, the port is barely noticeable. No burn, go-to whiskey.

Grainy and fruity with notes of young oak. It's okay considering the 15€ cost.

Good whiskey for the cost, no complaints, worth a shot.
