Glen Moray 9 year (2014/2023) Port Cask Finish

Nose: Intense fruit aromas of red berries and cooked prunes. A hint of menthol is present alongside abundant leafy, earthy tobacco, leather, and copious dark chocolate syrup. While 'chocolate' is frequently mentioned for spirits, this one genuinely delivers that scent in abundance. Palate: Consumed neat, the initial taste is sweet and fruity, succeeded by significant mouth-watering alcohol. Notes of tart walnuts, tart cherries, blackcurrants, and chewable tobacco emerge. Diluting with water significantly mellows and sweetens the palate, and is highly advised. Finish: Medium/Long: Flavors of Christmas cake fruits and spices alongside dark chocolate. Water doesn't shorten the duration but does result in a smoother finish. A hand-drawn distillery exclusive from Glen Moray’s “Private Cask Collection”, sourced from cask #6025486, likely a port pipe. This is a substantial, assertive, and expressive spirit that truly shines with a good splash of water. The drawback is that while water significantly enhances the palate, it diminishes the nose, which is regrettable. This whisky receives the highest score I have yet given to a Glen Moray.
