Joslyn Withers 4.3

The aroma is a blend of charred oak, vibrant floral rye spice, a subtle note of spearmint, vanilla, and molasses. As it airs, it harmonizes into the distinct scent of Four Roses. The palate begins gently, then quickly becomes dry yet rich, unleashing a powerful wave of strong rye spice throughout. Charred oak and vanilla recede behind the dominant floral notes, but keep the rye in balance. The OBSQ mash bill is recognized for its high rye content and pronounced floral character, and this expression exemplifies that without being overwhelming. Despite its near 12 years of age, the oak influence is perfectly balanced with the rye, not overly dominant. This particular barrel, from warehouse RS, barrel 23-1E, and being tier 1, likely contributes to its approachability. It's both gentle and bold, making the next sip highly desirable. The finish is medium in length, leaving the palate with a tingling sensation of rye spice, while the floral notes linger. Oak and vanilla are present in the background, and with chewing, a faint hint of molasses can be detected. This is a straightforward bourbon, executed exceptionally well, which is part of the appeal of these private selections. It embodies the ideal bourbon experience: simple and uncomplicated, yet rich in flavor and intensity. A short while after sipping, pleasant oak notes remain in the mouth. This is a delightful finish that perfectly completes the drinking experience.
