Jax Rivers 3.8

Initial taste from the neck pour suggests it needs more time to settle. It felt very raw and intense, a strong sherry influence with a lot of earthy notes. It was funky and bitter, with the sherry sweetness not very apparent. The finish had a sourness that was difficult to handle. I'm hoping it mellows out, as it seemed quite unbalanced initially. I will update this. Update: remarkable. After a second tasting, it's pure maple, date, and walnut syrup. Incredibly dark and dense. I'm increasing the score by half a point and will revisit, but I can't imagine it reaching a 4 even with time. It's impressive but overwhelming, making other sherry bombs like Aberlour A'bunadh seem mild.

Tracy Rios 4.3

This has been open for about two years, and is almost gone. The aroma is fantastic, like fruitcake all the way. It's dark and rich. The taste is predominantly maple with a minty or piney finish. It's creamy with some dark coffee notes.
