Regarding the Good Spirits Co. Glasgow virtual tasting on April 23, 2022. The aroma presented emulsion paint, hairspray, floor polish, vanilla, ginger, hay, and gorse, with a subtle floral hint. The taste featured woody, nutty notes, treacle, golden syrup, toffee, burnt sugar syrup, butterscotch, and faint berry undertones. The dominant and almost overwhelming taste on the palate was barley. The long finish offered leather, oak, charred notes, sweet fruit and berries, and cocoa powder, followed by a slightly dank aftertaste. The barley remained the most prominent flavor. This was crafted from a first-fill 100-liter ex-bourbon cask, distilled January 26, 2018, and bottled in March 2022 as one of 178 bottles from Cask No. 54, Bottle No. 36. It used Plumage Archer barley and Brewer's C yeast. This expression is all about the barley, possessing an uncompromising, chewy mouthfeel. It's oily, funky, grumpy, dark, and full-bodied, definitely not for novices. While its profile is challenging, it offers considerable complexity. It's a dram to be savored slowly, not casually quaffed. It tied for first place among the six samples, earning 21% of the vote for favorite of the night, with 79% of attendees indicating they enjoyed it.
