Dalmore The Quartet

A recent Dalmore travel retail bottling, part of a new collection, this Dalmore "The Quartet" features four cask finishes. Its undisclosed maturation begins in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, followed by finishing in Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon casks, 30-year-old Matusalem Sherry butts, and 30-year-old Apostles Sherry barrels. This approach is intended to create a complex array of tastes and scents. This expression, alongside "The Trio" and "The Quintet", draws inspiration from the diverse cask maturation of Dalmore's renowned King Alexander III. Bottled at 41.5% ABV, it presents a deep copper hue. The aroma is exceptional and highly intricate. Initially, I detected the familiar "Glue" characteristic of Dalmore, followed by wine notes, oranges, Sangría, chocolate, wedding cake, raisins, dried fruits, and rum raisin ice cream. It also has herbal, licorice, and spice elements, along with a glazed pork aroma. After an initial taste, further notes emerged: hazelnut, figs, citrus, and tangerine. I thoroughly enjoyed this scent; it's worth savoring for an extended period. The palate is more conventional but still enjoyable. It offers hazelnut, chocolate, and a Hanuta dessert flavor, with hints of pepper and salt. It's quite wine-forward and full-bodied. The finish is also a fantastic experience. Predominantly sherry-influenced, it includes notes of ash, astringency, prune, and metallic tones. Ginger and pepper contribute to an incredibly long finish. In summary, this is a remarkably complex and satisfying whisky. At $90, it's a tremendous value. I suspect it would be challenging for anyone to dislike this dram, as everyone is likely to discover a pleasing flavor or aroma that aligns with their palate. A superb dram, earning a score of 95 out of 100.

Decent whiskey with a few too many flavors fighting each other. At 85 pounds per liter, it's a fair price, but not exceptional.

Slightly vanilla and fruity on the palate. Softer viscosity. Easy to drink.

A hint of caramel and vanilla... a light taste of the ocean... Opens up to a taste of nutmeg.
