Herman Armenta 4.0

Aroma - Freshly cut apples, new hay, golden raisins, a hint of caramel, apple cream/custard Taste - Freshly cut apples, mild barley wine, fresh hay, golden raisins, creamy apple compote over scalded cream/milk Finish - Fresh apples, like walking through an apple orchard Score - 88/100 Final Thoughts - Very enjoyable, well-balanced, but quite forgettable. A well-crafted ex-bourbon cask Scotch, but it doesn't feel particularly special beyond its excellent balance. Nothing truly stood out; apples were the dominant flavor, with hints of sweet barley in the background. Would I drink it if offered? - Yes Would I specifically order it? - Perhaps Would I buy a bottle? - No NOTE - All reviews are conducted without considering price.

I was impressed by Daftmill at a London show in 2018, but demand kept me from sampling it again until now. Similar to that initial experience, this bottling echoes the Kilkerran 12 in its profile and impact, featuring bright notes of fresh hay and Meyer lemons. It finishes creamy, offering the kind of sippable spirit that brings a smile. I wish my own whiskies tasted like this.
