Chopin Potato Vodka

Rating: 15/23 I've been eager to try this for some time. Chopin's wheat vodka is excellent, and its rye offering is also good. This marks my first experience with their potato vodka, and it's from a brand with a solid reputation, so I was quite enthusiastic. Nose: It's definitely earthy, though not quite as I had anticipated. There's a slight sourness, some saltiness, and a hint of sweaty socks. It's peculiar, but not necessarily unpleasant. Palate: Wow! This is much sweeter than I expected! It tastes like sugar water. It carries the same earthy, funky sock character from the nose. And it's also quite spicy! I had assumed the rye would be the spiciest of Chopin's offerings, but the lack of a low burn here accentuates its sharp prickles. Strangely, it avoids tasting bad and instead falls into the intriguing category. I'm uncertain if there's a sulfur flavor present, which I suppose means it isn't problematic. Again, intriguing. There's a little tartness, but very little. It's not as extreme as I feared from the aroma. Revisiting it the next day, the peculiar funky flavors are still present but less off-putting. I'm starting to enjoy the funk now. It is a bit spicier than I prefer and also a bit thinner. However, the rich, earthy funk is quite nice. Finish: The more intense elements subside here, and the spice mellows, leaving a slightly chocolatey earthiness with mild prickling, sweet water, and just a faint trace of that funky sweaty sock character. - Conclusion - This is an unusual one, and I'm okay with that. It competes very well with Chopin Rye, but it's certainly not on the same level as Chopin Wheat (17/23) unless you are particularly fond of that funk. I'm leaning towards a 14 or 15. Ocean (16/23) is also superior, but not by a significant margin. I believe this is most similar to Chopin Rye (15/23). So, a 15 it is.

It clings to the glass like a heavily-tannined wine. It has a light scent/taste of potato but remains very clean. It lacks that rubbing alcohol quality. It's exceptionally smooth with only a minor sting. Perhaps a single ice cube would enhance its purity. Wonderful with orange juice.

This is an unbelievably phenomenal vodka. Fantastic. It's so drinkable without any harshness, making sipping very enjoyable. There's no harsh aftertaste. It truly offers a neutral vodka experience, with a full mouthfeel and a touch of sweetness.

This is a high-end, classic-style Vodka. It's full-bodied and creamy, as accurately described, and very smooth with a subtle sweetness and delicate flavors. It's definitely sippable, surpassing many 'luxury' brands.

This vodka has a subtle fresh herbal scent and a clean, neutral flavor with a peppery, spicy, warming finish. It's truly quite pleasant; it reminds me of rye whiskey without any of the unnecessary embellishments.

The aroma evokes wet potting soil, with a subtle minerality. Similarly earthy palate, with a very oily mouthfeel and a touch of pepper. Impressively smooth finish. 3.25/5.00 – Quite Good (neat)
