Cardhu Distillery Exclusive

Following four drams of Cardhu during the distillery tasting tour, we finally reached the products they promote for purchase in the shop afterward. This suggests this particular expression might be superior to the other core range varieties that didn't impress me much. This review is for the Cardhu Distillery Exclusive, bottled at 48% ABV, which is stated to have been matured in three different casks, including one from California that previously held red wine. A very interesting claim that we will now properly evaluate. On the nose, it's good. It begins with the scent of damp cake on the verge of spoiling within 24 hours. Honey, prunes, and a very pleasant creamy vanilla. Candied almonds and green apples. Lemon peel. On the palate, it's fiery and harsh! Almonds and very oaky. The second sip was a complete letdown, turning into bland water. The aftertaste is not particularly pleasing. It tastes like new wood, similar to licking a Ping Pong table. Mostly oaky, with a subtle charred wood sensation. In summary, this was an unbalanced, unappealing dram that managed to earn some points intermittently, resulting in a score that is low but not entirely shameful. It had a nice nose, but was followed by a forgettable palate and a dull finish. Proceed no further; there's nothing remarkable here. My score for it is 77 out of 100.

Starts with esters, followed by sweet vanilla and honey flavors, and a somewhat sweet finish.

Pleasant drink, I would purchase a serving and possibly a whole bottle.

Strong, lots of flavor, a mild burn, good quality

Honey and sweetness are present on the palate.

Sharp pepper and a little heat.
