You know I can't pass up a beautiful label, especially on a Signatory Vintage decanter. This is particularly true when the whisky has such a deep copper color, indicating clear, strong sherry maturation. This is actually the darkest Caol Ila I've ever encountered, and its appearance is enhanced by the striking label depicting the Phantom Horseman. This particular bottling is part of a collection named Angels & Horsemen, with an apocalyptic theme. Adding to its appeal, it has been bottled at 58.4% ABV, with only 1238 bottles produced. The aroma is incredible. Cherries, red fruits, plums, blackberry preserve, and a lotion for burns. It's smoky and medicinal. On the palate, it's absolutely perfect. Preserve with hot chili peppers. Cherries. It's so thick you can almost chew it. Lulo fruit and Hershey's Strawberry syrup are also present. The finish is a doomsday of flavor. It's incredibly powerful and satisfying. Very dry, with notes of star anise, medicinal qualities, cotton, and swamp. A wonderfully intense spiciness. Overall, the final judgment for this dram is truly excellent. It's an extraordinary, unforgettable, and mythical whisky, bursting with flavor. Its complexity offers numerous layers of taste and aroma. Amazing stuff; this is a perfect single malt. My score for it is, of course, 100 out of 100, and it will undoubtedly be among my top ten whiskies of 2023.
