Details of this sample: The Lady of the Glen Caol Ila 9 Year Old, finished in a Xynisteri white wine cask. Distilled April 17, 2012, bottled May 4, 2021. Matured over seven years in a hogshead before a finish in a Xynisteri white wine cask (cask #311196) from Cyprus. Bottled at natural cask strength of 58.3% ABV; limited release of 307 bottles. This is bottle 189. Nose: Imagine lemon peel and bacon bits mixed together, with added sweet cream, apricots, and ocean salt air for a wonderful, bright, clean aroma. Palate: The texture is thick and creamy. Sweet, smoky, and citrusy. Barley sugar coats the palate within the silky body. Notes of cigar ash with lemon zest and sweet vanilla-covered apricots. With Water: Dilution slightly mutes the nose. The palate remains largely unaffected by a generous addition of water. More sweetness is present but not excessive. Finish: As it fades, black pepper spice tingles the tongue, with the sensation persisting throughout the duration. The peatiness is constant, leaving an ashy palate. The finish lasts nearly forever, comparable to the final chord of ‘A Day in the Life’. Overall: This dram offers pleasing savory and sweet aromas and flavors. It's Caol Isla at its best. The alcohol's intensity is welcome but not overpowering. A warming dram, ideal for cool evenings, though enjoyable anytime. A very fine pour. Thanks to for the generous sample.
