Bunnahabhain 2007, Port Pipe matured

The third expression I had the pleasure of sampling at Bunnahabhain was a Port Pipe Cask Strength, bottled at 53.9% ABV from the 2007 vintage. It's impressive how spirits can act as a time machine. When I see "vintage 2007," I ponder my own life back then, unaware of single malts. On the nose: it begins with an amazing "Fresco solo" aroma. This Ecuadorian artificial drink, similar to Tang, is joined by red chili, strawberries, and tutti-frutti. On the palate, it was excellent. All the expected notes from a Port Pipe maturation are present. Red fruits, strawberries with their leaves, sulfur, salt, and very wine-like. Following the initial sip, the flavor evolved into chocolate milk. The finish is also very good. Red wine, sawdust; exceptionally dry and winey. Lovely port characteristics. Red fruitiness. Overall, the port maturation worked wonderfully with a spirit like Bunnahabhain, known for its famous and pleasant chocolate notes, creating a perfect union. A fantastic dram, the finest Bunnahabhain from the tasting thus far, earning a score of 92 out of 100.
