This whisky unfolds gradually. What initially appears as a lighter, sherry-influenced spirit quickly reveals itself to be much more complex and satisfying upon closer examination. As your palate adapts to its higher alcohol content and dry, structured bitterness, distinct layers emerge: rich malt, savory seaside notes, hints of dark fruit, and a mature, woody spice that feels both smooth and assured. Unlike many spirits from Islay, there's no heavy smoke or iodine here; this drink is built on harmony, texture, and subtle depth. It's a spirit that doesn't demand attention but earns respect over time. Therefore, it's perfect for the experienced drinker who appreciates nuances, especially those who enjoy the richness of sherry casks without excessive sweetness. With further sampling, this becomes increasingly hard to ignore. It might not be the most assertive or outgoing spirit in your collection, but it could be one of the most complete.

Nose: It conjures the impression of a cold, old chimney and damp wood, with a subtle smoke – not peaty, yet distinctly Islay. A hint of mustiness. The sherry and dried fruits contribute complexity, eventually revealing notes akin to Glendronach 12. Palate: Smooth with no harshness, exhibiting mild spice and an oily texture that finishes dry, featuring hints of orange peel. Finish: Delightfully dry, with a lingering vanilla sweetness. Overall, this whisky provides a very pleasant experience—flavorful, smooth, balanced, and quite complex, especially considering its value for a 12-year-old without added color or filtration. It's significantly better than the Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair I've had before. I would buy it again.

Nose - Initially, I detect saltiness. Briny and medicinal, somewhat like iodine and bandaid. It brings to mind cold, foggy weather. Subtle sweet notes are hidden behind. I detect raisins, dates, apples, oranges, etc. It also possesses a little freshness. Tongue - I immediately get notes of dates, raisins, grapes, and molasses. The saltiness and medicinal character appear as I swirl it. The aftertaste is again reminiscent of raisins. It goes down very smoothly. Hints of black pepper and spiciness emerge. The finish is short. I wish the finish were longer. A very pleasing regular sipper. Rated 7 out of 10.

Nose: some subtle nuttiness, sea air, hints of dark Sherry, slightly earthy and a bit sweet. Cinnamon, light black pepper, mild orchard fruit. Palate: smooth, sweet, and clean. Honey, cinnamon, warm baking spices and fresh bread. Warm, sweet oak and some mild vanilla cream. Dark candied cherry, a spicy and earthy sherry. Dried fig. An underlying malt sweetness for balance. Salinity emerges as it transitions to the finish. Finish: tannic, mildly phenolic, warming and drying. Hints of berry.

Aroma: sweet, fruity, plum, apricot, grape, raisin, almost like brandy. Also perceptible is the barrel and a hint of biscuit. Almost no smoke. Taste: raisin, caramel, shortbread, full and deep flavors. A little vanilla. It goes down very easily, and despite the alcohol content, it doesn't feel harsh. Not smoky in taste, but there's a dry, ashy sensation at the end of the sip. Finish: liqueur-like, nutty.
