This bottling, part of Buffalo Trace's fourth experimental release in 2008, was initially a bourbon made from BT Rye Mash #1, distilled and barreled in May 1992. Following six years and three months in new charred American oak, it was transferred in August 1998 to a medium-toasted French oak ex-cabernet franc barrel. After a total of fourteen years aging, with 35.67% evaporation, it was bottled as "whiskey" at 45% ABV in February 2008. The TTB's rules at the time required finished bourbon to be labeled as whiskey if aged in wine casks.

Beautiful floral and fruity nose. The flavors are delicious, but understated. I wish this had a higher proof so the flavors would be more pronounced. The finish is unexpectedly long for its low proof. I really enjoy this and am very pleased I had the opportunity to sample it.
