About this bottle

This bourbon, released in 2013, was one of two bottles from the twelfth edition of Buffalo Trace's Experimental Collection series. This batch investigates the impact of extreme heat on oak barrels during the bourbon-making process. This bourbon was produced from BT Rye Mash #2, distilled and barreled in January 1997. The barrel underwent a three-and-a-half-minute char, achieving a #7 char level (a #4 char, typically used for bourbon, takes about thirty seconds). Seven barrels were produced. Following fifteen years and nine months of maturation (with a substantial 69% evaporation), the barrels were emptied in October 2012 and bottled at 45% ABV.
