About this bottle

First offered in Washington in 2016, BSB Brown Sugar Bourbon is a flavored whiskey made with bourbon and infused with brown sugar and cinnamon. Actor and musician Jamie Foxx was announced as the brand's owner in March 2021, coinciding with a redesigned bottle while keeping the product unchanged. It is bottled at 60 proof and distributed nationally. This bottling has been discontinued as of April 2024, replaced by BSB Whiskey, a 70-proof revised and repackaged version.

Those who toss the phrase "pancake syrup" around for whiskey should sample this first. Difficult to consume even a half ounce neat. This genuinely smells, tastes, and drinks like diluted syrup. It strongly resembles bourbon-barrel-aged maple syrup I sometimes get and is equally sweet. This might actually be a more economical choice for my pancakes... but I believe I'd be better off just adding a bit of OGD114 to my maple syrup container and calling it a day.

I realize this will upset bourbon/whiskey purists, but I acquired this bottle for around $14 and am surprisingly enjoying it with Diet Coke, of all beverages. I could not imagine consuming it straight or even with ice due to its excessive sweetness, but with the soda, it achieves a pleasant balance. A good choice for an inexpensive, sweet drink while watching a film.

Nose: Brown sugar. Obvious. It carries the scent of a newly opened bag of brown sugar. Palate: Sweet. Exceptionally sweet. Just as the name implies, it possesses a brown sugar flavor. The texture is quite watery. Finish: Slight heat. Excessively sweet. Doesn't suit my preference. It would excel in a cocktail resembling maple bourbon, but I'm not fond of it on its own.

This is not a bourbon I would enthusiastically endorse. While I'm not typically drawn to flavored bourbons, the initial impression is brown sugar, followed very quickly by a chemical undertone, which is generally not ideal.

I generally prefer traditional bourbon, yet I found this quite appealing. It's undeniably sweet and smooth enough to drink straight. Unlike other flavored bourbons, it doesn't present artificial flavor notes. Definitely worth sampling if you're curious.

BSB presents a pale amber, clear look. The scent is like brown sugar. Tastes of brown sugar, cinnamon, and a bourbon foundation. It has a medium body, and BSB (Brown Sugar Bourbon) at 60 proof concludes with a semi-sweet profile.
