Nose: Citrus, lime, apple, floral. Palate: Vanilla, cereal, malty/gristy, orchard fruit (peach/apple). Finish: Medium long. Floral, gristy, ginger, nutty. Produced using the 2011 harvest of Bere barley from the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College. Ranked joint last out of six drams, receiving 0% of the vote for favorite of the evening. 47% of attendees enjoyed the whisky.
Aroma: Zesty and green notes of orchard fruits. Light honey and distinct cereal sweetness. Hints of floral and white wine. Palate: Slightly oily and rich. Flavors of sea air and milk chocolate digestive biscuits. Finish: An initial musty woody spice that mellows into chocolate-covered ginger with a spicy sweetness. Dry with a subtle aspirin aftertaste. A stone fruit flavor appears on the finish.
This expression meets its marketing objectives! A truly unique "terroir" character with earthy, grassy, and dusty notes, alongside a sea saltiness and even a whisper of peat from the "ground" essence, all in a non-peaty bottling!
