Bruichladdich 10yo, 1980s -1990s Bottling

I've long mentioned my dislike for Bruichladdich, though I recognize its widespread appeal, particularly the classic 10-year-old expressions I find reminiscent of soap and shampoo. My understanding of its popularity has been elusive until now, having sampled an 80s/90s bottling of this iconic spirit. A gift from an Islay hotel proprietor, this miniature was released during Whyte & Mackay's ownership and bottled at 43% ABV. The aroma presents a WONDERFUL CHOCOLATE essence, with notes of peach and tropical fruit, like the core of a pineapple. It's akin to warm, pleasant honey and freshly baked brownies. The palate begins with smooth vanilla, followed by coconut and ginger. It's quite good, though it thinned out slightly after a few sips. The finish is dominated by exquisite hazelnut and dark chocolate, with an undetectable sugar quality. It's very sweet, evoking cotton candy. Ultimately, I adored it. I discovered it to be intricate, rich in flavor, and possessing enjoyable notes. The absence of soap or shampoo in my tasting was a welcome observation. This is truly a dram capable of building a following, especially if it were just a 10-year-old, which I suspect was quite affordable. An excellent whisky, earning a score of 92 out of 100.
