About this bottle

Bowmore Laimrig, translating to "pier" in Scottish Gaelic, is named for the historic stone structure near the distillery where barley was received and the spirit began its export journey. This single malt is bottled without chill-filtration after aging for 15 years in Spanish sherry butts, and its ABV may vary slightly with each release as it is bottled at cask strength.

Wow! Thanks to a friend for opening the cabinet. This is much better than I anticipated. Definitely something I would buy immediately. Viscous, oily. Pleasant, gentle smoke on the nose, rich caramel, and a mouth-coating buttery texture on the tongue. I hesitate to call it one of the best scotches I've ever tasted, but it's close!

Le Survenant finally reveals its name: Laimrig. We welcome it as it arrives. It announces itself strongly, which is opportune! Where there's smoke, there's fire... It settles in and isn't leaving anytime soon. It will stay at least until dessert. Who would refuse a grape tart?

I can't praise Bowmore enough. While it is an Islay, the smoke isn't overpowering. It's present, certainly, but it doesn't assault the senses. The sherry casks likely contributed to its balance. A great-tasting dram.

This is likely more of a 4.5 stars for me. Unlike the darkest edition, this one is entirely smoke and very salty. I adored it!

2017 Messe: it burns, but has a very exciting taste of sweet, salt, and smoke.

Kirk Carroll 3.0

Noticeable peat smoke, but it hits hard enough to seem young.
