Corinne Hirsch 3.8

Acquired one of 221 bottles from barrel 377 during my recent journey to the granite state. The packaging mentions “sweet honey with hints of tropical fruits & berries complimented by luscious light peat smoke” Initially sampled neat, I must admit it is very smooth, and the 59.9% ABV is well concealed. I was quite taken aback by the amount of peat on the nose, which is not characteristic of a Speyside; it smells more like an Islay. The palate began slightly sweet, offering a hint of honey and some fruit, though I wouldn't describe it as tropical. The peat gradually emerged toward the end, proving much more balanced than the aroma indicated. It had a moderately spicy finish with some sweetness returning at the very conclusion. Adding a little water enhanced the fruit notes and further mellowed the peat. While I anticipated a summer beverage, I ended up with something I'd prefer on a fall evening by a campfire. In summary, a well-rounded scotch that I'm glad to own!
