Benrinnes 11yo Masters of Magic "Self Decapitation"

I'm drawn to whisky bottles with eye-catching designs. Discovering the "Masters of Magic" series compelled me to acquire as many as possible. I managed to get four bottles, each featuring artwork from the golden age of illusions: Vintage Magic Posters. In the late 1800s, performers were the premier entertainers. Many believed in the existence of the supernatural, and numerous talented artists channeled this mystique into spectacular shows. Each performance was promoted with a distinct poster, much like the one on this Benrinnes bottling. This is an 11-year-old Benrinnes at 46% ABV, named "SELF DECAPITATION," a remarkable illusion performed by the legendary magician Harry Kellar. The aroma is incredibly fruity and aromatic, with notes of gooseberries and grapefruit, tangerine and green apples, and a hint of air freshener. It's like a floral floor cleaner. The second taste began with red apples and toffee, along with citrus notes. It strongly resembles "Skittles" or Starburst candies. On the palate, it starts with creamy vanilla, reminiscent of Italian gelato, followed by green apples and grapefruits, and a touch of sulfur. The second taste is very creamy with gooseberries. Quite enjoyable. The finish began with a hint of peat, evoking cigarettes and Italian gelato, alongside some metallic notes and cinnamon, finishing with red chili. After a few sips, it yielded sugar with milk. Overall, you wouldn't suspect its peaty character from the aroma alone. It's a truly complex and exceptionally fruity dram. While I don't typically rate single malts with this profile highly, this one truly earns it. An outstanding release from the esteemed "High Spirits" shop, earning a solid 91 out of 100.
