NOSE: This is intensely smoky, comparable to Ardbeg from Speyside. It has a rich, sweet scent of dates and plums. Damp leaves add an earthy note. A very potent nose. PALATE: It's less of a punch than the nose suggested, but it offers dry, sweet fruit and gentle spice. The finish is powerful again. Dry, salty, followed by cigar smoke and withered leaves. OVERALL: I included this in a blind tasting with other 18-year-old heavyweights, and it performed exceptionally well. It's likely the most robust, full-bodied whisky I've encountered.
