About this bottle

BenRiach Latada 18 Year, a Speyside single malt, is crafted using peated malted barley. Following its initial maturation in American oak casks, it undergoes a finishing period in casks that previously held Madiera wine. The designation "Latada" is derived from the system used for growing grapevines on the island of Madiera, characterized by low trellising.

The initial aroma was delightful. A perfect fusion of sweet, light, ashy peat. I truly appreciate the way the Madeira Finish has been incorporated, as it greatly enhances the peat. The peat presents with a sharper, acidic edge, yet it's well-balanced by the Madeira. On the palate, notes of honey, fresh grass, and citrus are present. While it's not a style of peat I could drink in large quantities, it's a commendable effort.

Smoky, with fruit and good balance; a very pleasant peated Benriach.
