The distillery can switch between distilling peated and unpeated barley, a process requiring thorough cleaning of stills to prevent flavor contamination. BenRiach Dunder 18 Year originates from a heavily peated batch, initially matured in American oak and then finished in dark rum barrels. "Dunder," a term used by Jamaican distillers for distillation residue often used to start fermentation, gives the whisky its name. Only 1,888 bottles were produced, and it is bottled at 46% ABV.
