My experience with Benriach has been limited, but every bottle has been excellent. This one was no different. When sherry whiskies have a higher alcohol by volume, they seem to be amplified. Truly remarkable flavors and a bold experience await. This particular Benriach is from an independent bottler and has not yet been released to the market. I received a sample during my time in Scotland. Bottled at 58.7% ABV with a tawny color. On the nose: a perfect score. Almonds, sherry, cherry, Cognac, blackberries, tobacco, wine, marmalade, raisins coated in chocolate, and notes of Syrah or Pinot Noir wine. Exceptionally complex and refined, wonderful. On the palate: another perfect score. Red fruits, dried fruits, figs, pineapple, and a cheese flan-like texture. All enveloped in caramel. The aftertaste is good, though not as exceptional as the nose and palate. Tobacco with sherry and ginger notes are present. Currently, I'm in a sherry phase, preferring sherry whiskies over peaty ones. This expression was simply magnificent. This dram only narrowly missed a 5-star rating, falling just 0.25 points short. It received a score of 95 out of 100 (actually 95.75) - an amazing dram. The owners of Benriach also own Glendronach, so one can anticipate the quality. A concluding toast is included.

Uncorked this blind and had a chance to sample it tonight. Didn't win over everyone, but I enjoyed it. Unconventional, perhaps Pinotage grape?
