Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Caramel, vanilla, a faint oaky note. Palate: Baking spice, clove, raisin. Finish: Medium length with medium heat. Splash: The raisin flavor becomes more prominent. Overall: 8.5/10 - There seem to be quite a few of these 1970’s Beam decanters selling at auction these days, usually for $75-100 depending on the decanter itself. For that price, there are certainly better selections on the shelf, but what a conversation piece to offer friends this whiskey that was distilled in 1969. The nostalgia factor alone makes it worthwhile. Once this is gone, if I can still find them at auction I’ll definitely buy another to share with friends.
