Bardstown Bourbon Co. Copper & Kings American Apple Brandy Finish

Tasted neat. This sample makes me regret not purchasing it, but a friend sent it to me to ease that disappointment. The maturation is evident on the nose. I appreciate these 10-12 year old MGP spirits with this type of finishing. What's intriguing, likely due to the finish, is how the high rye content is so pronounced it almost seems young, exhibiting an overwhelming brightness and a vibrant, green character. It's positioned right alongside the oak. It's peculiar. Nevertheless, it offers delightful MGP notes like butterscotch and graham cracker. I don't believe the finish enhances the aroma. The mouthfeel is pleasantly oily and creamy, which I enjoy. It's surprisingly peppery. It's also sweet, but initially very peppery and spicy. It then evolves into a wonderful MGP profile with chocolate, butterscotch, dark cherry, and graham cracker. Delicious. However, the finish is problematic. The brandy dominates the finish, lingers, and overpowers. I'm not sure I care for it; it feels like a tonal clash. It's quite acidic and sharp. I have mixed feelings. The underlying MGP is excellent, but the finish might have detracted from a superb whiskey rather than adding to it. This is the first finished MGP I haven't enjoyed. The finish is a letdown. On the plus side, I no longer regret not buying it!!!!

Nose of fresh pear and orange peel with noticeable apple and soft cinnamon. On the palate, there's a strong oak influence with nutmeg and apple cider vinegar. It definitely drinks on the warm side. Finishes with notes of worn leather and more dried fruit character.

Bardstown has done it once more. A fantastic finished spirit with an apple brandy character throughout. I must admit this is a rather distinctive whiskey that might not suit all palates, but I suggest giving it a go.

Wow, this offers a spicy, chewy, oily sensation. It's intense, but with substantial flavor to support it. If you appreciate a chewy rye, this is a solid starting point.

I'm not typically a fan of bourbon finished in alternative barrels, but this had a great flavor. However, I wouldn't pay for it.

Once again, I wasn't impressed by Bardstown's offerings.
