Ballechin Signatory Vintage 2010 Kirsh Import

My initial experience with Ballechin is from a Signatory Vintage 2010 bottling exclusively for Kirsh Import. This pseudo-distillery is essentially the peated counterpart to Edradour. It began as a farm distillery and remains one of Scotland's smallest whisky producers. Bottled at 48.1% ABV, it displays an attractive chestnut hue. On the nose, oh the wonderfully peculiar peaty aromas: a pair of cotton socks, sea foam, merthiolate, and iodine. Distilled water, pungent cheese, and freshly mown grass. On the palate, it's quite engaging but somewhat direct. Salted caramel, nutty, sulfuric, and toffee notes are present. Delivered very competently. An aftertaste dominated by peanut butter, butterscotch, and a touch of saltiness. Pleasant. Brown salt. Overall, I believe this expression meets expectations. For a 10-year-old peated Edradour, it delivers the minimum anticipated quality. It's not particularly memorable, just a fine, enjoyable drink. With balanced scores across all aspects, I rate it a solid 84 out of 100.
