Kurtis Brady 4.0

I grabbed this immediately at the store because I'm a huge fan of Balcones. They enhance their excellent standard single malt by finishing it in fresh Madeira casks from a Texas winery. This gives it a deep ruby color and a rich aroma. The nose is full of dark fruits and berries like blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant, with malt and a hint of ginger in the background. The palate is dense with heavy dark fruits blending with their signature malty peach flavor. Mild barrel and baking spice notes are present with a touch of tobacco leaf. The long finish carries the palate flavors, adding some dark chocolate and drying oak. To offer some context, this is earthier and, dare I say, damper than a bright, sugary sherry finish. It's another success for Balcones, which is typical at this point. If you enjoy their other single malts and see this, get it. As someone once said, 'you won't regret it.'... 91/100... I paid $75, and it's worth it.

This whiskey is loaded with flavor! It has abundant plum and oak notes, along with some roasted nuts, grapes, and fig. The warmth definitely spreads through your chest.
