Auchroisk 16yo single Wine Cask by Cadenhead's

Cadenhead's is recognized as a legendary independent bottler of Scotland's finest single malts. I must admit, I haven't always been drawn to their offerings, as their bottles and labels aren't the most visually appealing. This goes against my personal rule: "if a whisky bottle looks famous and unattractive, I must purchase it, as its quality likely doesn't need marketing." (Think Laphroaig, haha). However, I acquired a bottle of Cadenhead's that looked quite decent. It's a single ex-wine cask bottling of what I consider one of Scotland's most flavorful malts: Auchroisk. This 16-year-old single wine cask, bottled at 54.3% ABV, is one of only 246 produced. I had high hopes, but I never anticipated it would be THIS GOOD. On the nose, it's the most captivating fruity single malt I've encountered. It starts with melon, tangerine, and oranges, all feeling incredibly fresh. Chocolate and hazelnuts follow, very creamy and rich. After a few minutes, I detect notes of rum and raisins, grandma's perfume (very floral), plums, and a pastry shop. The palate offers melon and papaya, with toffee and pepper. After the first sip, it transitions to chocolate and strawberries. The finish is quite a journey. It resembles drinking a slightly warm Coca-Cola or Dr. Pepper. Farm fruits, red berries, and a hint of spice. It quickly evolves into dried fruits like almonds and hazelnuts, along with chewing tobacco. Overall, I presented this at a highly competitive cask strength whisky tasting event, and it was the undisputed winner. Another superb expression from Auchroisk and my first Cadenhead's. I will certainly seek out more from them, particularly these wine cask bottlings. My score for this amazing whisky is 97 out of 100. Trust me, for its price, it has no equal in the whisky world.
