Initial tasting reveals a dark appearance. The nose is dominated by raisin and oak, with an underlying musty tobacco scent, intensified by water. Without water, the palate is bitter with tannic notes, resembling raisin bran. However, adding water transforms it, softening the oak and replacing the bitter raisin with a black plum or fig character, complemented by a pleasing currant jamminess. The finish is dry and oaky; water shifts this to the background, allowing raisin and bran muffin notes to emerge. Overall, it's like two different spirits. Without water, it's harsh and bitter. Water significantly improves it. Given the price, it's not a repeat purchase, though it offers a unique challenge with potential rewards for patient exploration. The effort doesn't quite justify the reward.
