History

A pisco-based riff on the classic The Last Word cocktail. Equal parts are most common, but a touch more pisco improves the drink.

The Last Word’s origins are a bit murky, but it is widely believed to have been created at the Detroit Athletic Club, sometime around 1916. The club’s librarian, Ada L. Jones, claimed in 1920 that the cocktail was invented by one of their members, a Mr. Harry V. T. who preferred anonymity. The drink gained considerable popularity in Detroit, with the publication "The Bottle" calling it "the greatest and by far the most famous cocktail of the present day" in 1917. It was listed in Jacques Straub’s 1917 book, *Mixed Drinks*, where it was simply referred to as the "Last Word."
