History

The Waters of Hippocrene has a greenish hue, ideal for late-night thought or reading Keats.

Adapted from a 2021 recipe by J. E. Clapham of Clapham Cocktails. The original recipe specifies white crème de menthe. This drink traces its lineage to two classics: the Mint Julep and the Fancy Free. It is described as an "Inspirational draught named after the spring of Hippocrene on Mount Helicon, home to the nine Muses. Keats refers to it when longing for a glass of claret in the second stanza of his Ode to a Nightingale. The Hippocrene spring in Greek mythology is a sacred fountain to the Muses on Mount Helicon, said to have been created by Pegasus striking his hoof into the ground. Its waters were believed to inspire poetic creativity.
