Ingredients

1 fresh Passion fruit
1 oz Gin
2 oz Sauvignon Blanc wine
1/6 oz Orange Curaçao
1 1/2 oz Ginger ale

How to make

Serve in a collins glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COLLINS GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange slice wheel.

Method

  1. 3 Cut passion fruit in half and scoop out flesh into shaker.
  2. 4 Add next 3 ingredients and SHAKE with ice.
  3. 5 STRAIN (fine strain if you don't want passion fruit seeds in cocktail) into ice-filled glass.
  4. 6 TOP with ginger ale and briefly stir.

Garnish

  1. 7 Garnish with orange slice wheel.

History

Passion fruit, gin, wine and ginger ale combine well in this fruity, yet dry, refreshing drink.

This drink is adapted from David Embury's 1948 book, The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. WALTZING MATILDA 1 part Passion-Fruit Nectar 1 part White Gin (Beefeater recommended) 2 parts Dry White Wine A few dashes Orange Curaçao to each drink Shake with cracked ice and strain into Collins glasses until each is about 1/3 full. Add ice cubes and top with club soda or ginger ale. This original recipe creates a tall drink. It may also be served as a cocktail by omitting the soda or ginger ale.
