Ingredients

2/3 oz Rye whiskey 50% abv
1/2 oz Applejack brandy
1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/3 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
1/6 oz Chilled water
3 drop Saline solution 4:1

How to make

Serve in a nick & nora glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a NICK & NORA GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist.

Method

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 5 EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

This recipe is one-third the volume of the original, with optional additional water compensating for the use of rich 2:1 sugar syrup instead of simple syrup.

Adapted from a recipe created circa 2007 by Joseph Schwartz at Milk & Honey in New York City. Joseph's original recipe called for Old Overholt Rye Whiskey from Pennsylvania and Laird's Applejack from New Jersey, so appropriately, this cocktail is named after the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) connecting these two states with New York.
