History
A Martini variation without vermouth, sweetened with sugar and balanced by ample bitters.
This cocktail is adapted from George J. Kappeler's 1895 book, Modern American Drinks, and is called the Turf Cocktail. The original recipe calls for one dash of Angostura bitters, three dashes of orange bitters, and one jigger of Tom gin, to be mixed in a glass with half-fine ice. It should then be strained into a cocktail glass and garnished with a piece of twisted lemon peel.
