History

A reposado tequila is preferred in this sour, though blanco tequila offers freshness and purity.

The TEQUILA STONE SOUR is adapted from a recipe found in Vincent Sardi Jr. & George Shea's 1988 Sardi's Bar Guide. It requires one teaspoon of superfine sugar, three-quarters of an ounce of lemon juice, two ounces of tequila, and two ounces of orange juice. The ingredients are to be combined with ice cubes in a shaker, shaken, and then strained into a cocktail glass. Alternatively, the entire contents can be poured into an Old-Fashioned glass to be served on the rocks. Garnish options include half an orange or lemon slice and a maraschino cherry.
