History

Originally equal parts dry gin and dry vermouth with a splash more absinthe, this super refreshing cocktail is better with the absinthe being less prominent and a little extra sweetness provided by splitting the vermouths between equal parts dry and bianco. Using old tom gin or lemon in place of lime juice has been tried but dry gin and lime juice with lemon for the garnish is preferred.

This recipe is adapted from Jacques Straub's 1913 Straub's Manual of Mixed Drinks. The TAXI COCKTAIL calls for: ½ Jigger French Vermouth, ½ Jigger Dry Gin, 2 Barspoons Lime Juice, 2 Barspoons Absinthe. Frappe.
