History

This preparation makes strawberries and cream seem uninteresting. CAUTION: Strawberry pulp has a tendency to clog strainers and sink drains. Consequently, double straining is crucial for this cocktail, as is the use of a high-quality Hawthorne strainer (a strainer with an extra spring and a wide-mesh fine strainer with a large capacity are recommended). The Hawthorne strainer will capture most of the fruit pulp and ice from the shaker. Passing the liquid through an additional fine strainer ensures the cocktail's clarity. Even with superior strainers, the pulp will impede the flow towards the end of the pour. Gently shifting the shaker to facilitate the liquid's escape is helpful. Lastly, a bar spoon can be used to move the pulp in the fine strainer, allowing the final drops of the cocktail to pass. Avoid the temptation to prepare two cocktails in a single shaker by doubling the quantities, as this will exacerbate pulp-related issues. The resulting cocktail is worth the effort!

This cocktail is a popular choice in Cuba, where it is recognized as a Daiquiri de Fresa.
