1 oz Rosso/sweet vermouth
1 oz Pineapple juice
6 drop Daiquiri bitters

Serve in a coupe glass

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of pineapple wedge.

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

History

The original three-equal-parts recipe is bland without added roasted pineapple and mint Daiquiri Bitters.

The Spark Club Cocktail first appears in Arthur Moss' "Cocktails Round Town" chapter within Harry MacElhone's 1927 book, Barflies and Cocktails. The drink's creation is attributed to William Morgan DeBeck (1890–1942), also known as Billy DeBeck. He was an American cartoonist famous for his Barney Google and Snuffy Smith comic strip, which included the characters Bunky, Snuffy Smith, and the racehorse Spark Plug. Spark Plug became a significant merchandising success, described as "the Snoopy of the 1920s." The write-up continues: "And how does that clever cartoonist, Billy De Beck get his kick? Obviously, from his "Spark Plug Cocktail." As outlined to Barney Google, it consists of 1/3 Italian vermouth, 1 /3 brandy, and 1/3 pineapple juice. Giddap!"
