History
An Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail made with Underberg bitters.
Albert Stevens Crockett's 1931 book, "Ol Waldorf Astoria Bar Days," provides the basis for this recipe. It lists: "Southgate One-fourth lump Sugar dissolved in one-half pony of Water Dash of Boonekamp Bitters One jigger Whiskey One piece twisted Lemon Peel" It is noted that Underburg bitters were originally known as Underburg Boonekamp Bitters, and "One-fourth lump Sugar dissolved in one-half pony of Water" is a simple sugar syrup.
